TRAVELING ON A BUDGET - FINDING AIRLINE DEALS

I just finished booking our flights for our upcoming trip.  Chicago to Las Vegas 4.21.2017, San Francisco to Reykjavik Iceland 4.424.2017, Reykjavik Iceland to Copenhagen Denmark 4.29.2017, Copenhagen Denmark to Brussels Belgium 5.1.207, and Brussels Belgium to Chicago.

Total for all flights: Me = $514.49 and Him = $729.09

I am sure you are asking yourself how did we manager to fly from Chicago and back with stops in Las Vegas, Reykjavik, Copenhagen, and Brussels for that price? We did use some miles but we also got some great deals. Traveling in Europe can very affordable.  We always try to get credit cards that offer miles or perks. We use Chase Sapphire quite a bit because you can use their rewards or convert them 1 for 1 to United miles (THEY OFFER OTHER OPTIONS TOO). We also have the top 3 airline's credit cards for free baggage and priority boarding. If you do not fly often enough to reap enough rewards to cover the annual fee, then it won't be worth it. We have cards for American, Delta, and United.

My airfare breakdown:

Chicago to Las Vegas: Used 20,000 miles on American making the total ticket cost $5.60.  Since we have their credit card fare includes personal item, carry-on bag, one checked bag, and Zone 1 boarding.

His airline breakdown was the same except for the flight from Chicago to Las Vegas. We did not have enough miles for his ticket so the ticket cost was $220.20

San Francisco to Reykjavik Iceland: (NOTE: we are renting a car to drive from Las Vegas to San Francisco. This is not included in the cost of airfare. Car rental is $70.00.) WOW Airlines https://wowair.us/ - purchased ticket for $189.99. We added a carry-on bag for $50.99 and a XXL seat for $60.99 making the total cost of the ticket $301.97.

Reykjavik to Copenhagen Denmark: Scandinavian Airlines https://www.flysas.com/en/us -purchased ticket for $111.22. Fair includes a personal item and carry-on bag.

Copenhagen to Brussels Belgium: Scandinavian Airlines – purchased ticket for $49.94. Fair includes a a personal item and carry-on bag.

Brussels to Chicago: Used 30,000 miles on United making the total ticket cost $45.76.  Since we have their card fare includes a personal item, carry-on bag, one checked bag, and Zone 1 boarding.

TIP: Always look at Wikipedia when trying to find budget flights. If you Wikipedia the airport you will see all servicing airlines and their destinations. Flying during the week is usually less expensive.
